Frequently Asked Questions
How Can We Help?
What is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound is a non-invasive, painless exam that produces images inside the body. Sound waves are used in real-time and are able to show the structure and movement of internal organs.
How does it work?
Ultrasound imaging is called Sonography, it involves the use of a transducer and ultrasound gel that is placed on the skin. Sound waves are transmitted from the transducer, through the gel, and into the body. The transducer receives information from the sound waves. The computer then uses those waves to create an image.
Is ultrasound safe?
Ultrasound uses sound waves, that are above our range of hearing. It does not use ionizing radiation, so there is no radiation exposure to patient or baby. After 40 years, studies have proven that ultrasound causes no harm to mother or baby.
Does this take place of an ultrasound at my Doctor's office?
3D/4D imaging is elective and non-diagnostic. Our ultrasound will capture detailed images of your little one. However, this ultrasound does not take place of a complete diagnostic ultrasound of mommy and baby. We require that all of our mommy's be under the care of an OB/GYN. UME's services are meant to create a memorable experience for mom and family.
How far along should I be for a 3D/4D ultrasound?
We are able to do 2D ultrasounds as early as 10 weeks, as long as a diagnostic pregnancy confirmation has been done prior to our service. For 3D/4D we recommend 25-33 weeks for the best images.
Can you determine the sex of the baby?
Yes, in most cases the sex can be determined as early as 15 weeks. Certain factors can affect imaging such as maternal body habitus, development of the fetus, and fetal position. We will do our best but can't always guarantee that the baby will cooperate during your session.
Will I get perfect images of my little one?
More often than not we acquire great images! In some cases your little ones position will determine image quality. Sometimes baby's are face down or sleeping. In these cases babies are in control. No matter what challenges we face. UME promises to do our best!
Are elective ultrasounds covered by insurance?
No, only diagnostic ultrasounds are covered by insurance. You typically will receive one or two during your pregnancy. 3D/4D is a non-diagnostic elective service which requires self pay. We accept cash, credit, or debit.
What should do to prepare for my ultrasound?
To prepare to see your baby eat well 30 minutes before your scan. Baby's seem to perform better when mommy is happy and comfortable.
